School Profile

Three granite arches grace the entrance of Colby House, Stanstead College's main building. The arches reflect the school's motto – Sanitas Sapientia Religio or health, wisdom and integrity – as well as its highly structured programs of academics, athletics and student life.

At Stanstead College, girls and boys in Grades 7 through 12 live and study on a picturesque campus surrounded by the hills of Quebec's Eastern Townships and Northern Vermont. The school has a population of approximately 240 students from around the world and a highly involved faculty and staff. In addition to the Quebec Diploma at Secondary V (Grade 11), Stanstead College offers a Grade 12 option based on Advanced Placement and Ontario pre-university programs. As the only Canadian school accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), Stanstead College proudly sees its graduates enrolled in top universities across Canada and the United States as well as internationally.

Students at Stanstead College enjoy the unforgettable experience of making lifelong friends and being part of a Canadian boarding school with an international student body. Building on over nearly 150 years of education, Stanstead College reinforces traditional values as it embraces innovation in a constantly changing world.

School Differentiators

Stanstead College is the only Canadian school accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), providing our students ready access to top universities in the United States and across Canada as well as internationally. Our Grade 12 option offers students an intensive pre-university experience, including Advanced Placement (AP) courses and stimulating student life in our unique Grade 12 co-ed residence. Students at Stanstead College experience the best of many worlds: English education in a French-Canadian environment with the United States just next door, all in safe, secure rural surroundings 1.5 hours from Montreal.

Programs

Advanced Placement:

Program Details:

Advanced Placement courses in Grade 12 offer academic enrichment, the development of study and test-taking skills, and, in many cases, first-year credits at college and university. AP allows students to choose enrichment in their stronger subjects and the development of study and test-taking skills. In addition, the external testing offered by the AP program is valuable in the university admission process because, unlike school marks, exam scores are comparable regardless of where the exam was administered.

AP options at Stanstead: Biology, Calculus AB, Chemistry, Comparative Politics, Economics, English Literature/Language, French, Human Geography, Physics, Statistics, Studio Art

Community Service & Trips

Students who take part in our community service program once a week visit residents in nearby seniors' homes, walk the dogs at an animal shelter and work with young children at local after-school programs. It's a way to support the community and discover the two-way benefits of helping others.

Plus, once a year, our students and teachers head out en masse to the Town of Stanstead and other areas to clean, pick up and help out during our Community Service Day. Most years, students and teachers from Stanstead College spend their March breaks helping build homes in Central America and Africa in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity.

During school mid-term breaks, students have the opportunity to participate in trips to Disney World, New York City, Toronto.

In addition, all students take part in class trips:

Overnight camping for junior grades, Quebec City for Grade 10, Ottawa for Grade 11 and university tours for Grade 12.

During March break, there is usually a service trip in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity.

Summer Programs

At Stanstead College, our summer campers learn English, French or Spanish through a unique immersion program that includes classroom learning plus outdoor and cultural excursions and other on-campus activities. Students in groups of 9 to 15 receive instruction at three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Classroom instruction focuses on speaking, listening, reading and writing exercises. Participants become more confident in their second (or third) language by improving comprehension and developing their spoken vocabulary and grammar. Students are motivated to speak their language of study at all times in the class and while at play in order to get the most out of their camp and learning experience. At the end of camp, advanced-level students will undergo TOEFL Junior testing.
