School Profile
Innovative, smart, natural, and safe, SJK has much in common with its home country, Canada. Internationally minded students live and learn in one of the most beautiful and technologically advanced areas in Canada – Waterloo Region, Ontario, located just one hour west of Toronto. SJK has a beautiful 36-acre campus featuring modern learning facilities, its own lake, fields and forest.
Offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum programmes in all three levels (PYP-MYP-DP), SJK ensures each student is extremely well prepared with a strong set of learning skills as well as healthy body and mind to succeed in his/her top choice university and beyond in careers and life.
While the majority of SJK students are Canadians, the boarding residence accommodates only 50 international students in Gr.9-12 every academic year. If you are committed to working hard, if you are open-minded to a wide variety of co-curricular activities, if you want to learn how to adapt to and succeed in this fast-changing world, SJK is your school.

Admission & Entrance Test Requirements
Admission Requirements
SJK values high standards of conduct, academic achievement and teaching. We have respect for each other, our environment, history, traditions, and ourselves. We welcome applications from students who share those values.
First and foremost, we want to admit students who want to be at SJK, who believe that SJK will help them to achieve their goals, and who want to make the most of their SJK experience, in and out of the classroom.
ESL support at SJK is limited in scope. Successful applicants will have a strong foundation in written and spoken English and will be able to manage their learning in English with minimal support.
Entrance Test Requirements
We require SSAT or CAT as entrance exam options. SSAT stands for Secondary School Admission Test, administered by Enrolment Management Association (EMA) of USA, available globally in SSAT centers 6 times throughout next academic year. For those students to whom the location or timing of SSAT is inconvenient, we make individual online arrangements to administer Canadian Achievement Test (CAT). Both exams consist English language, Reading and Math; however, the applicant is only required to take one of the exams, not both.
We do not set minimum acceptance scores; rather, we look at percentiles of the student's test results in each section to assess the student's English proficiency and math foundation, as well as their learning potential. To be able to successfully adapt to SJK's IB learning, an international student should ideally achieve results at 30-50 percentiles in English and reading; 80-90 percentiles in maths.
Other English language standard tests such as TOEFL and IELTS are not required; however, if the student has those test scores, they can be used as reference but not as replacement for SSAT or CAT - the student is still required to take either SSAT or CAT. Either SSAT or CAT results are also a part of the holistic assessment process by SJK's admission team.
School Differentiators
What makes SJK unique and exceptional? Essentially, 'The SJK Experience' is connected to three broad themes: Community, Campus and Continuum. These three themes explore ideas such as school culture, community relations, personalized opportunities for students, experiential learning, the significance of our natural campus and its integrated use in curricular and co-curricular programming, values-based education and a global perspective that informs teaching and learning at SJK. Ours is a small school community of approximately 400 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our Boarding residence is located in the heart of the City of Waterloo, allowing our Boarding students to experience all that this vibrant, safe city has to offer. Offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum programmes in all three levels (PYP-MYP-DP), SJK ensures each student is extremely well prepared with a strong set of learning skills as well as healthy body and mind to succeed in his/her top choice university and beyond in careers and life. 100% of our graduates are admitted to their top choice university.
