School Profile

Established in 1836 in Quebec, Canada, Bishop's College School (BCS) is an IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and certificates. With a campus bordered by farmland and rolling hills on one side and by the city of Sherbrooke on the other, BCS is a small, welcoming community and a second home to students from over 40 different countries. We create a caring community of learning and development where cultures connect and individuals matter. By embracing a rigorous yet supportive academic program and a well-rounded education that includes athletics, the arts, leadership and development, and global citizenship, BCS is preparing students to become tomorrow's leaders.

We offer a Bilingual Option (English and French), as well as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award program, and are a proud member of Round Square, through which students can go on exchanges and volunteer abroad.

Summer Programs

The BCS Summer Language Camp has been held every summer for over 50 years.

Students 11 to 16 years of age choose either English as a Second Language or French as a Second Language. Courses are designed to provide an opportunity for concentrated instruction to well-motivated students interested in gaining proficiency in French or English. Both the English and the French curricula offer instruction at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Each level includes oral and written work and offers a solid base for work in grammar and conversation. In general, the emphasis is placed on an improvement in spoken French and English but appropriate supplementary study is given to reading, writing, and comprehension skills.

Classes usually consist of 10 to 12 students. This small class size allows for more individual attention for each student yet the groups are large enough to maintain a healthy class spirit. Classes are held six mornings and four evenings a week. Placement tests are administered at the beginning of camp and class tests are given on a regular basis. Reports are made to parents at the conclusion of the month.

BCS strives to maintain a warm atmosphere and places equal emphasis on academic progress and personal well-being.
