School Profile

The Bishop Strachan School is a leading independent JK-Grade 12 day and boarding school for girls. Our rigorous curriculum embraces an equity mindset, and prepares students for university and beyond. Our approach teaches students to learn deeply and build the skills to make positive change. They are encouraged to find their voice, to work collaboratively, and learn to lead. BSS students grow into compassionate and ethical citizens.

Our 7.5-acre campus includes STEAM-focused learning spaces, a Centre for Arts and Design, multimedia and film labs, and athletics facilities, including a new turf field - the first in Ontario at a girls’ school. As an inclusive girls’ school, we foster a sense of belonging by affirming our diverse community.

BSS Boarding welcomes Grade 8 to 12 students from Canada and around the world to live, learn and grow. Our comprehensive program helps students become more self-reliant and self-aware, develop confidence and learn to lead. We emphasize life skill development, holistic well-being and safety in everything we do, from exciting on- and off-campus programming to the daily routines that shape Boarding life.

School Differentiators

BSS is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive community, and we believe that an outstanding education should be accessible to all. With more than $2.2 million available in financial assistance, we aim to provide opportunities to as many qualified applicants as possible.

Our innovative JK-Grade 12 STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) curriculum provides students opportunities to create, problem solve and design using state-of-the-art technology and design thinking. Our excellent facilities and resources include two design tech labs, laser cutters, 3D printers and more.

Our inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning across all grades emphasizes an equity mindset. Students consider who is impacted by the issues they are studying and whose voice is heard. They learn to dismantle barriers and make the world more accessible to all.

Community Service & Trips

BSS students have many opportunities to give back to their communities, find a purpose larger than themselves, gain perspective and help make the world a better place.

Community service opportunities have included peer-to-peer tutoring for elementary school students in areas such as math, coding and reading; working with advocacy organizations such as CNIB; collecting and stocking food for local food banks; special events such as Holiday Love (an annual drive to collect basic necessities for newcomers, refugees and families in need); and the Community Voices program, which enables students to investigate issues, engage in civic life, and advocate for change within and beyond BSS.

We encourage our students to go beyond their comfort zones by traveling outside their province or country. Past Global Experiences include volunteering at a clinic and learning about ecological conservation in Costa Rica, CIS Drama Festival workshops led by the cast and crew of Stratford Festival plays in Stratford, Ontario, and language and culture immersion in France.

Summer Programs

The BSS Summer Academy is an exceptional way to get ahead, catch up or explore something completely different. We welcome students entering Grades 9 to 12 to our beautiful campus every summer for outstanding learning in four-week Credit Courses, one-week Skills Courses, Debate Camp and Coding Camp.

Dates, course offerings and fees for the following summer will be available on our website in February. Visit www.bss.on.ca/summer-academy for more details.
